Plant
Pale meadowbeauty
Rhexia mariana
Pale meadowbeauty can be found in bloom from spring to fall alongside ponds, lakes, and other wet habitats. Unlike most flowers, meadowbeauty’s pollen is held inside curved, cylindrical yellow anthers that have a single escape hole at the tip. Pollen is released only when bees vibrate the anthers at a specific frequency in a process called buzz pollination.
